On Jan 31st, 2023, we hosted at our Institute a technical presentation by Dr. Marco Meirich from the company Neowells, a leading company in deep geothermal well Design. The presentation was focused on the latest techniques and technologies used in deep geothermal wells and was an excellent opportunity for us to learn about this exciting and rapidly growing field.
The presentation began with an overview of the basics of deep geothermal energy, including its advantages over other energy sources. Dr. Meirich then discussed the challenges of deep geothermal well planning, highlighting the need for accurate and detailed information about the geology and hydrology of the subsurface.
We learned about the steps of traditional well planning and how it is different in comparison with a deep geothermal well, dealing with low pressure, high salinity, and high-temperature environment.
One of the highlights of the presentation was a case study, whereby Neowells was involved in one of Germany's important deep geothermal projects in graben Neudorf. he demonstrated how their advanced well planning techniques were used in the project. We saw how the use of these techniques and technologies had a significant impact on the project's success, resulting in improved drilling efficiency and increased production.
Overall, the technical presentation by Neowells was an informative and educational experience. It provided us with valuable insight into the latest techniques and technologies used in well planing, and we left with a greater understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this sustainable field. keeping our chapter members up to date with the industry is a key objective of ours!
