ExxonMobil Production Excursion March 2023

Our 2023 Field trip to ExxonMobil Production in Barenburg

On March 16th, 2023, our chapter organized a field trip to the ExxonMobil Oil field in Barenburg, Lower Saxony. The excursion was informative and educational as we got a first-hand experience of the processes involved in extracting and processing crude oil.

The tour started with a presentation on ExxonMobil's history, operations, and environmental responsibility. We learned that ExxonMobil is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and is investing in alternative energy sources. We were then taken to the production site where we saw the different stages of oil extraction. The guide explained how the company prioritizes safety, and we saw safety measures being enforced at every stage.

One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the laboratory, where we saw how ExxonMobil uses technology to monitor the quality of its products. The guide demonstrated how advanced equipment is used to analyze different properties of the produced fluid to ensure they meet the required specifications. In conclusion, the field trip was a great opportunity to learn about the oil production process and ExxonMobil's commitment to safety and environmental responsibility. It was an eye-opening experience that highlighted the importance of responsible oil extraction and processing practices.

We were grateful for the opportunity to witness first-hand the operations of such a renowned energy company. Our students were very excited about this trip due to the fact that many of them didn't have the chance before to be on the front line of operations in the industry, which made clear that connecting the prospective engineers with the industry is a core objective of our chapter
